Gurukul, a day-boarding school, was started by Saraswati Educational SocietyThe idea was conceived by Dr Prakash Bhave (a practising Radiologist), Mrs Mrinmayee Bhave (founder of Daffodils Nursery School, Pune) and Mrs. Vineeta Nagarkar (former Vice Principal of Jnana Prabodhini, Pune)

Arrival of railway bogies.
Education on Wheels: The first of the railway coaches which will serve as a classroom arrive at the premises of Gurukul.

Toto Chan's "train-school" took shape and 5 rooms and 2 bogies were ready for use as an office and classrooms. The contractor and workers toiled for 40 days to get the rooms and bogies ready for the students.
The students were welcomed into the 'bogie school'.
Groups of students were formed across classes for Sports and other activities. These groups called as ‘House’ were named after the 6 seasons (Rutus) of the Hindu calendar at a picnic near Sinhagad. The rutus are Grieshma – Red; Varsha – Green; Sharad – Pink; Hemant – Orange; Shishir – Blue; Vasant - Yellow
'Old-building' was constructed.
Building was constructed above the first 5 rooms to house more classrooms. Later, this building was named by children as the
'Old building'. The first concert was organised.

Inauguration of the school hall with interfaith prayer service. The prayers were conducted by a Maulavi, a priest, a Hindu Pandit. It was followed by a Zoroastrian prayer and reading of the Guru Granthsahib.
Established full fledged laboratory for mathematical experiments.
'Mallakhamb' sport was introduced.
'Mallakhamb' a less known traditional Indian sport where a gymnast performs feats and poses using a vertical wooden pole or rope was introduced.
